In this two-day course, we will cover the principles of pencil drawing and the secrets to capturing a convincing and recognizable portrait. The focus will be on learning how to block-in the proportions of the subject, the structure of the facial features, the science of light, form, and shading, and (most importantly) capturing the likeness of your subject. 

 

Materials for Drawing the Portrait in Graphite

-1 8×10 or 9×12 sheet of good drawing paper (Stonehenge or Canson Mi Tientes Recommended. White, cream, eggshell, or other light tone.)

-Pencils, one 2B, one 2H and one 3B (steadtler, faber castel, or similar brand)

-Pencil Sharpener

-Kneaded Eraser

-1 knitting needle or cabob skewer (used for measuring)

-1 T-square

-1 8×10 photo reference, recommended black and white. (can be obtained at Walgreens.) Recommended close-up portrait only (no hands and body.)

-Tan tape

-Drawing board
