This introductory-level workshop will cover the basics of acrylic painting mediums, preparing and priming surfaces, as well as a variety of techniques (such as mixing chromatic blacks, tonal painting, and photo transfers). The primary goal of the session is to be informative and to familiarize attendants with the wide array of materials they can immediately implement into their art practice. Everyone will be given the opportunity to experiment with pumice gel, crackle paste, fiber paste, molding pastes, acrylic pigments, oil pastels, white and black gesso, and glossy/matte mediums (photo transfers), all while learning their properties, proper applications, and compatibilities with other painting media. Materials will be provided, however, everyone is encouraged to bring any surfaces they would like to gesso (canvas, wood, masonite, boards, cardboard, paper, etc.), as well as any other painting supplies they may have.
