PAINTING PET PORTRAITS
Instructor: Eliza Moser
Friday and Saturday, April 23rd and 24th, 10 am to 3 pm
2 Day Workshop
Hybrid Course, attend online or in-studio
$175 Non-Members | $ 150 Members
Learn how to paint the portrait of a devoted family member—your pet! Working from a photo reference of your own choosing, create a life-like oil painting of your furry friend. In this two-day workshop, we will capture critical proportions and shapes in the drawing stage of the painting and come to understand how to conceptualize light and render a three-dimensional form. We will examine the process of mixing accurate colors, and finally, learn techniques for creating textures such as fur and feathers.
Pet Portrait Materials:
1 8×10 photo reference of your pet
1 8×10 canvas or panel
1 8×10 sheet of tracing paper
1 2B pencil
1 kneaded eraser
1 T-square
Oil Paints: Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Titanium White, Ivory Black, Ultramarine Blue. (if you have other colors at home, feel free to bring these as well.)
Mineral Spirits
Tight-seal jar for mineral spirits, or a mineral spirits container
Brushes: various sizes, including detail brushes. Recommended: Synthetic Round brushes, but feel free to bring brushes of your preference.
Optional: medium, such as linseed oil. Recommended: Gamblin Galkyd Gel or Liquin.
