Embracing the Uncertain is a creative writing class for poets and prose writers who want to tap into the memory of experience to create new work. Together, we’ll read and discuss short excerpts/works by Teju Cole, Elizabeth Bishop and others and then generate new work of our own.
About Heather:
I am a compassionate educator with a love for teaching and writing. Presently, I teach at Worcester State University and Clark University. I am currently completing my MFA in Creative Nonfiction at New England College, graduating in July 2023.
My 20-plus years of teaching experience include K-12 public education and higher education. My first career began as a librarian and library teacher in K-6 and later 7-12 teaching information curation, style and citation workshops, research skills and strategies and more. As I continued teaching, I began adding high school teaching experience to my repertoire. I have taught 8th grade Language Arts, and high school English courses including MCAS preparatory, Dystopian Literature and Film and Creative Writing. Currently, I teach college-level composition. literature, and creative writing courses.
My scholarly interests include the History of the Essay, Creative Nonfiction, and Human-Animal Relationships in Memoir and Autobiography. My work has appeared in asap/J, The Carolina Quarterly, Soundings East, Bennington Review, Doctor T.J. Eckleberg Review, 580 Split, and other fine places. Besides writing, teaching, and studying, I enjoy traveling, and spending time with friends and family, especially my son.
