This 10-week course on devising theater is for teens who want to explore the issues they face today through performance. We will expand our performance skills through physical training where we listen to each other, follow and respond to impulses, and channel creative energy into generating performance on our own terms. Researching and drawing inspiration from other sources offers a foundation for our creative work as we explore performance in relationship to the issues we are addressing. Participants are encouraged to pursue any and all areas of performance creation that excite them – speaking, moving, music making, and using props. Directing duties will be shared, and decisions will often be made collaboratively. Performance assignments in our studio laboratory (the Grand Hall) will result in the generation of original material. Our course will culminate in a showing of our work.
